Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic hopes for a final battle against Roger Federer before retiring

What did Novak Djokovic say to Roger Federer?

Novak Djokovic has revealed that he wants one last fight with Roger Federer before the Swiss legend retires from the sport. Djokovic has beaten Federer in three Wimbledon finals but asked the eight-time Wimbledon champion for another thrilling showdown before it was too late. Federer, 40, has not played since Wimbledon 2021, where he is undergoing treatment and has not recovered from knee surgery, but hopes and seeks to return to the Laver Cup in September.

Novak Djokovic has revealed that he told Roger Federer that he wishes and hopes to play with him "at least one more time" before the Swiss star retired from the sport.

I told him that he is loved and has fans by many people and that he was welcomed very well, that he needs to return to the courts so that we can at least play again - as he himself said, "Djokovic, who faces Yannick Sener in a match next Wednesday, according to statements to Serbian media.

"We all saw and heard how special and exciting it was when he entered the center court. Everyone was standing on their missed feet, everyone showed their love and respect towards him - he is truly a tennis legend and in every respect.

Djokovic's confrontations with Federer

Djokovic has prevailed against Federer in three Wimbledon finals in the past decade, including twice in five thrilling sets.

They met face-to-face 50 times as professionals, with Djokovic leading the most with a 27-23 record, and Wimbledon provided the backdrop for some of the most memorable confrontations in the history of the game.

"Of course, Federer was one of my biggest rivals in my career and it was strange not to see him participate with us in tournaments," Djokovic added.

Roger has been suffering from severe knee injuries over the past few years but has only played two tournaments - and as he said, it was strange not to see him here at Wimbledon in a different role.

I think it is very important for the sport of tennis that players like him play as many matches as possible, because it brings a lot of interest and benefit to all of us from tennis players.

Djokovic reached the quarterfinals after a four-set win over Tim Van riethoven.
